The perfect Disney nails are going to capture the excitement of your passions for Disney. You can choose simple by adding pixie dust (i.e. glitter nail polish) or go extreme with 3D acrylic art. Here are some Disney nail art ideas and inspiration.

DIY Tip Step 1: Decide on a Design.

Choosing your design might be one of your biggest challenges once you decide to do Disney nail art. Are you channeling Mickey Mouse or The Little Mermaid? Is your design going to be Disneybounding or an actual painting?

The possibilities are endless for Disney characters to inspire your nail art designs. You can choose to tie it into a special event like a first visit to Toy Story Land in Walt Disney World or a new movie premiere. Or maybe even just a holiday like Easter or Valentine's Day. Maybe you choose to have garden party nails inspired by Alice in Wonderland. What about nails inspired by Winnie the Pooh and all his friends from the 100 Acre Woods? There are endless possibilities.

    Other Disney Character Inspiration:

    • Snow White
    • Lion King
    • Tigger
    • Tinkerbell
    • Lilo and Stitch
    • 101 Dalmatians

Wherever your dreams and nail polish take you, we're sure it will be amazing! Here are a few of my favorites from Instagram for your inspiration.

Don't forget Star Wars and Marvel Universe are now part of the Disney family too.

This nail artist took full advantage of the Marvel Universe & Star Wars for inspiration.

If you really want a magical manicure, then you're going to need to invest in a basic set of nail design art tools. I picked up this set below on Amazon for less than $10. It's going to last me many trips to Disney, infinity and beyond. This kit includes most of the art brushes you'll find in a salon, dotting tools, rhinestones and striping tape.

The nail polish you use doesn't have to be super expensive. However, the top coat of nail polish should be a strong one because you'll want to keep your decorations on as long as possible.

    Step 3: Practice, Practice, Practice.

There are tons of YouTube tutorials on how to do Disney nails. Watch them and take notes of what you like/don't like about each.

If you're all about Mickey and Minnie Mouse, create hidden Mickeys. Choose a base color and highlight colors to create these fun mouse ears. These Mickey Mouse ears are my favorite to create because of how easy they are. First, complete a base coat in red. I wanted to try a Mickey face on one nail so I painted it white as a highlight.

Use a large dropper tool and make 3 circles. Right away you have the base for perfect Disney nails!

To make the Mickey faces, I used the large end of a dropper to add dots to the first nail. I then used a smaller end of the dropper to make the small dots at the corners of each large dot. In just a few minutes, I had the perfect Mickey heads. Finishing off the inspiration with the dots from Minnie's dress and a Mickey head on the last finger, I think these Mickey and Minnie Mouse nails are perfect.

These Instagrammers were just as excited to feature Minnie too! Use pink and white as the base colors and go crazy with polka dots, Minnie heads, bows, rhinestones and everything else Minnie-inspired.

These red and white Minnie nails are just as fun.

How to Create Disney Princess Nails

It can be hard to choose which princess you're going to be inspired by, so how about choosing all of them? I completed this design on a little girl and we used 10 different princesses. To turn them into magical nails, I used the stripping tape and rhinestones from the nail kit above.

On one hand, she chose Cinderella's bow, Belle's rose from Beauty and the Beast, Jasmine's tiara, Tiana's necklace, and Moana's flowers. I created Merida, Rapunzel, Ariel, Mulan and finished with a Minnie bow.  It took just over an hour to do but it was so much fun to come up with the inspiration that I'd gladly do it again.

Going to the Nail Salon for Your Disney Manicure

DIYing your nails might too much. In that case, you have two options. First, you can go the semi-DIY route and buy nail decals or press-on nail stickers. I picked up these and believe that they'd all work for Disney nails. Doesn't that pattern look just like mermaid scales?

Going to the nail salon is an option as well. Finding a nail pro who can complete a true art look requires finding a nail technician with experience in freehand design.

Start by asking friends/family for referrals. If that doesn't lead to an experienced nail artist, consider Googling search terms like "freehand nail art" and your city. You can always try searching on Instagram with the search terms "#Disneynails" and "#freehandnailart." These searches are going to bring up a variety of nail artists. Even if they've never completed a Disney nail, an experienced nail artist will be able to create amazing Disney nail art.

However you choose to complete your Disney nails, we want to see them! Tag us over on Instagram (@travelingmom or use the hashtag #TMOM) so we can get inspired for our next trip.
